Woomera Hospital, located on Dewrang Avenue, south of the shopping centre is a ten bed hospital, providing all medical services for the Woomera area. A general practitioner is available for consultations. Appointments can be made Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the hospital by calling (08) 8673 7788.
There is always a duty doctor on call for emergencies. Routine X-Rays are carried out at the hospital.
Additional medical support is available through the Royal Flying Doctor Service based in Port Augusta. Specialist evacuation teams from Adelaide are also available for emergencies.
Maternity facilities are not available in Woomera, so expectant mothers must leave to be near their chosen hospital at about 36 weeks. Antenatal and postnatal care are available at the hospital and at Roxby Downs Health Service. Children's immunisations are available by appointment.
Allied Health Services from Port Augusta visit Roxby Downs Health Service (RDHS) monthly. Specialists include a Podiatrist, Speech Therapist, Dietician, Physiotherapist, etc. Others who visit are a Mental Health Nurse, Diabetic Educator and Women's Health Nurse. A Child and Youth Health Nurse visits Woomera on a fortnightly basis. The Royal Flying Doctor Service funds a visit by a female GP to Woomera bi-monthly. Appointments can be made at the hospital on (08) 8673 7788. |
