Defence Support - Woomera (DS-WRA) is responsible for the management of Woomera Village, Woomera West (Camp Rapier) and Nurrungar.
The primary role of Woomera Village and DS-WRA is to support Australian Defence Force and other trial activities in the WTF. DS-WRA and the Defence Centre Woomera (DCW) are led by the Base Support Manager.
Responsibilities of the Base Support Manager include oversight of the Woomera Commercial Support Contract held by BAE Systems Australia. The contract entails the provision of a wide range of services to Defence encompassing facilities management, plant and equipment maintenance, airfield operations, security, transport, communications, emergency services, information technology and administrative support. The contract also includes support to Defence in developing new trial-related business in the WTF, and assistance to prospective users of the WTF (refer to Contact Points). Technical and logistical support is available to WTF users on a commercial basis through the resources of the contract.
The Base Support Manager is also responsible for implementing the Woomera Environmental Management Plan and providing environmental guidance during operations planning. This role extends to approving and monitoring adherence to Environmental Clearance Certificates issued to WTF users for trial and other activities.
Additionally, the Base Support Manager is responsible for liaising with indigenous communities concerning activities in the WTF, and oversight of Defence facilities at Woomera Airfield, Woomera West (re-named Camp Rapier) and Nurrungar.
DS-WRA is an element of the Defence Support Group (DSG).
