Woomera Airfield and Village

The Woomera Test Range (WTR) has many unique and compelling attributes from a Range user perspective. Foremost is the vast land and air space for the safe conduct of a wide range of hazardous ground, air and space activities. Air trials and rocket launches are supported by the Woomera Instrumented Range (WIR) which is equipped with optical and radar tracking instrumentation as well as other Range user facilities. Various air weapons ranges, launch sites and explosive ordnance test areas are located within and near the WIR.

The favourable desert climate, benign electromagnetic environment and flat easily accessible terrain for test object recovery are additional major assets of the WTR. Also the ability to implement strict security for sensitive military and commercial activities.

Excellent support is available in Woomera Village which offers comprehensive services including a range of accommodation options and office space. Woomera Airfield is capable of handling most types of military and civil aircraft, and provides extensive hangar and office facilities, as well as aviation fuel supplies. Numerous other trial support services are available from Defence organisations, local companies and the Woomera meteorological station.
