PRISM Electronic Warfare Trials
Trials of BAE Systems’ Passive Radar Identification System (PRISM) were undertaken at the WTF in September 2007. PRISM is a ship-borne or land-based Electronic Support Measures (ESM) system which automatically detects, direction-finds and classifies microwave radar emitters, thereby providing enhanced situational awareness including threat identification. The latest version (PRISM III) is in service with the RAN’s Huon Class Minehunter Coastal vessels and is being fitted to the RAN’s new Armidale Class Patrol Boats.
Earlier variants served on the RAN’s Fremantle Class Patrol Boats and continue to be operated by the RAAF’s 41 Wing Headquarters Air Defence Regiment.
