Established in February 1949, the primary role of the Woomera Board is to advise the Area Administrator Woomera on community welfare matters and to manage village amenities. The Woomera Board consists of three nominated and six elected members.
The Board manages the Library and the 'Gibber Gabber' local newspaper.
The Gibber Gabber is published by the Woomera Board and is distributed free to residents in the Woomera district. Contributions from the community are welcomed and reports from the RSL Club, the Sports Club, the Golf Club and the Woomera Area School are included. Published weekly, the Gibber Gabber can be picked up from the Woomera Board Office, Woomera Heritage and Information Centre, Woomera Village Store and DSCW Reception.
The Woomera Board actively promotes a sense of community in Woomera and regularly organises social events such as Theatre nights, BBQs and trips to various events held in nearby Roxby Downs. The Board has also been responsible for developing many features in Woomera Village. Some of the most recent achievements include landscaping the entrance to Woomera, assembling the Long Tom rocket and plaque at the entrance to the Village, improving the Woomera Heritage and Information Centre carpark toilets, and the allocation of awards to the cleanest streets and gardens. |
