Woomera 60th Anniversary Reunion
Woomera celebrated its 60th Anniversary with a reunion of past and current residents over the Easter long weekend between 6 to 9 April 2007. The event was a big success, with well over 1000 former residents from within Australia and overseas returning to celebrate the occasion. Planning by the 60th Anniversary Reunion Committee, convened by the Woomera Board, spanned more than a year.
Activities included opening and closing ceremonies, sponsored BBQ breakfasts, club events, live entertainment, tours of the Range and Nurrungar, night-sky viewing from Woomera's new observatory, opening of the Woomera Technical and Social History Centre, a supper dance at the ELDO Hotel, a blue light disco at the Youth Centre and a spectacular fireworks display as a finale. Adelaide born astronaut, Andy Thomas, recorded a congratulatory video that was played at several locations.
A special bumper edition of the Gibber Gabber was produced by the Woomera Board to record this major milestone in Woomera's history.
